the tenor of Elizabeth the second, Kwame Nkrumah, who was the Executive President
of Ghana, assumed power and he ruled from 1960- 1966.
General Joseph Arthur Ankrah: Lieutenant General Joseph
Arthur Ankrah, led a coup d’etat that over threw Kwame Nkrumah in 1966 and the
ruled till 1969.
Second Republic
Brigadier Akwasi Afrifa: Assumed power on the 3rd of
September 1969 and ruled till the 7th of August 1970 as a military leader, only
for a total of 338 days.
Nii Amaa Ollenu:
Assumed power on the 7th of August, 1970 and ruled till 31 August 1970, which
was just for 24 days before he left power.
Edward Akufo-Addo: Assumed power on the 31st of August 1970
and ruled till the 13th of January, 1972.
General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong: Came into power on the 13th
of January 1972 till the 5th of July 1978, who was the chairman of the NRC as
well as Chairman of the SMC.
Lieutenant General Fred Akuffo: was a head of state who ruled from 5th July 1978 till the 4th of June,
1978 after over throwing Ignatius Kutu
in a Coup.
Flight Lieutenant General
Jerry Rawlings: assumed power as a military head of state after over
throwing General Fred Akufo in a Coup, he ruled from 4th June 1979 to 24th
September 1979.
Hilla Limann: ruled from 24th September 1979 to 31st
December 1981, after winning election through the democratic party PNP.
Lieutenant General Jerry Rawlings : Over threw Hilla Limann
in a coup, putting democracy on a halt. He ruled as a military head of state
from 31st December 1981 to 7th January 1983, he also ruled as a democratic head
of state from 7th of January 1993 till the 7th of January 2001 under the
Democratic Party NDC.
John Kufor: was a head of state, who assumed power from the 7th
of January, 2001 till 7th of January 2009, under the democratic party NPP.
John Atta Mills: was a democratic head of state, from 2009
to 2012 under the party of NDC.
John Mahama: a head of state who ruled from 24th July, 2012
till the 7th of January 2017 under the democratic party NDC.
Nana Akufo Addo: is the incumbent head of state of Ghana,
who assumed power on the 7th of January 2017, under the political party NPP and
will be the president till date.
