NWO Caribbean Research-PhD Scholarships in Netherlands
The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) invites applications for the Caribbean Research – PhD Scholarships 2025, a prestigious programme supporting PhD research related to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Open to graduates with a master’s degree, this multidisciplinary scholarship offers up to €350,000 for research projects lasting up to 48 months (or 72 months part-time).

To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) and must not already have a PhD or a fully funded PhD position. Applications must be submitted individually and in agreement with a proposed PhD supervisor and host research organization.

- Hold a university master’s degree (or equivalent) at the time of submitting the pre-proposal.
- Not already possess a PhD title.
- Not hold a fully paid PhD position or receive full-time funding for PhD research at the time of submission.
- Apply as an individual (not as a duo or group).
- Apply under one of the two categories:
- Category A: PhD trajectory at the University of Aruba, University of Curaçao, or University of St. Martin.
- Category B: PhD trajectory at another research organization. Applicants in this category must either be born on one of the six Caribbean islands or currently reside there.
