PhD Position in Greek and/or Latin Literature, Netherlands

The University of Groningen is currently accepting applications for PhD Position in Greek and/or Latin Literature in the Netherlands.

Applicants must hold a master’s degree in Latin and/or Ancient Greek literature or a related field, with strong knowledge of the classical languages. They should have a clear interest in posthumanism or environmental humanities, excellent English skills, and reading proficiency in modern academic languages or willingness to learn them.

Award: Fully funded (salary €2,901 to €3,707 gross/month, plus benefits)

PhD Position in Greek and/or Latin Literature, Netherlands Qualifications

Below are the qualifications expected of any interested in this scholarship.
  • Hold a Master’s degree in Latin and/or Ancient Greek literature or a closely related field
  • Demonstrate strong interest in posthumanist theory and/or the environmental humanities
  • Have excellent knowledge of Latin and/or Ancient Greek
  • Possess excellent oral and written English proficiency
  • Show reading competence in relevant modern languages (e.g., German, French, Italian), or willingness to acquire it.
  • Be willing to relocate to Groningen, Netherlands
  • Submit a short research statement (750 words), a writing sample (max 6,000 words), academic transcripts, and references as part of the application
  • Be prepared to undertake limited teaching tasks (0.4 FTE over four years)
