Leiden University’s Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS) invites applications for three PhD Candidate Position in Generative AI for Industrial Design Engineering (GenAIDE) Project. This unique 48-month program aims to revolutionize computer-aided engineering by developing AI systems that collaborate with engineers to design, explain, and optimize solutions.

To be eligible for the PhD positions at Leiden University, applicants must hold an MSc or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, or a closely related field, with strong skills in machine learning and programming (Python/C++).

Award: Monthly salary (€3,059–€3,881 gross), travel funding, training, tax benefits for eligible candidates

Preceding the applications are these qualifications which each and everyone willing and ready to apply for this scholarship must possess.

  • Hold an MSc (or equivalent) in Computer Science, AI, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Strong background in machine learning and/or evolutionary optimization; solid programming skills (Python/C++).
  • Demonstrated interest in generative models, XAI, optimization, or CAD (preferred).
  • Excellent command of English and willingness to work in a multi-sector, international environment.
  • Must not have resided or carried out main activities in the Netherlands for more than 12 months in the 36 months before recruitment.
Other

  1. A motivation letter (max 2 pages) indicating interest in the GenAIDE project and ranking of preferred positions.
  2. A CV including publications, projects (with GitHub links, if available), and contact details of two referees.
  3. Demonstrated interest in generative models, XAI, optimization, or CAD (preferred).
  4. Excellent command of English and willingness to work in a multi-sector, international environment.
  5. Must not have resided or carried out main activities in the Netherlands for more than 12 months in the 36 months before recruitment.
