The University of Gothenburg is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Ethnology or Gender Studies within the Horizon Europe project MAGnituDe, starting January 2026. The position offers a two-year full-time appointment focused on fieldwork, ethnographic research, and the study of migration, affective geopolitics, and European democracy.


To be eligible, applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Ethnology, Gender Studies, or a related field, awarded within the last three years (with exceptions for special circumstances such as parental leave or illness). They should have documented experience in ethnographic research, as well as engagement with feminist, queer, or intersectional theories.

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Hold a doctoral degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in Ethnology, Gender Studies, or related fields.
  • Doctoral degree must have been awarded within the last three years (exceptions apply for parental leave, illness, or similar circumstances).
  • Demonstrated experience in ethnographic research (participant observation, qualitative interviews).
  • Documented engagement with gender theories (feminist, queer, intersectional) or cultural norm/power dynamics research.
  • Oral and written proficiency in English, Russian, and Ukrainian.
  • Additional merit: ability to teach gender, culture, and qualitative methods; proficiency in German and/or Swedish.
